Nash Comment on Tiffany & Co

On Greg Nash's desk, there's a yellow button from the 1980s displayed as: "I'm not participating in the recession, and neither should you." Being a reminder of the tough period during which his jewelry company has weathered .Nash Jewelers at 120 S. Olive Ave. turned 54 years old this year.
"The economy has affected us, of course it has," he said. "Our retail sales have gone down, but appraisals and repairs of jewelry have kept things going. I metamorphose with the economic tide and just acclimate. That's what we've been doing for years and that's how we are still in business."
However, on the other hand, there have been some positive signs: it was reported by INDEX that last October total jewelry sales rose 3.3 percent from the beginning of last year. Industry powerhouses like Tiffany & Co. and Zale Corp. are no longer watching their sales take double-digit declines. And Nash also gave a high praise to Tiffany & Co, the giant of luxury industry.
"Jewelry sales are an area that's often early to recover. There's more of an emotional connection to traditional gifts like jewelry." said retail analyst Marshal Cohen of the NPD Group.
