Taking on a new meaning with more operators converting unused rooms into apartments in order to entice permanent residents by using the brand name is living in a hotel, especially a luxurious one.
It is said by the operators that offering strata-style apartments is a good way to improve occupancy and it's used for guests who like to play up the branding element as a tool.
As the global financial crisis has hit tourism, obvious displays of wealth have disappeared during the past few years, which have had a damaging effect on branded hotels such as the Bulgari, Giorgio Armani and Tiffany & Co hotel chains around the world.
Tony Ryan, of Ryan Lawyers, told a conference late last year that the trend towards more apartments-hotels under the same roof would increase in the coming years. Mr. Ryan said, ''Residential offerings will drive more boutique apartment-style developments within a hotel project. These types of developments are evolving as more equity players are keen to generate increased income from their projects.'' It is believed that Tiffany & Co will stand steadily in this economic storm.
